Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is a repair process executed by highly skilled technicians using specific tools and techniques that are designed to remove minor dents and dings from an auto body. In fact, PDR re-sculpts the vehicle’s original form rather than filling and painting dents, which significantly speeds up a body repair by eliminating the mixing, applying, and drying times of fillers, primers, and clear coats.

Consequently, the original factory paint is not altered in any way, which preserves your vehicle’s factory warranty. In fact, today’s factory paints are very flexible and are not damaged by this process. Fortunately, this relatively new approach to body repair can be applied to a wide range of dents, dings, creases, and bumper indentations found on most vehicles today.

For those reasons, PDR dramatically reduces turnaround time, which also makes it a less expensive solution for repairing minor dents on an automobile. Since PDR avoids traditional processes and their harmful chemicals, it is also environmentally safe, and is the only repair method for preserving your factory warranty.

Because of its proven background and effectiveness with repairing dents, it is highly recommend by automotive manufacturers and insurance companies alike. Some of the most common and practical uses for PDR are the repair of hail damage, door dings, minor body creases, and bumper indentations. These relatively new techniques are also being applied to help prepare a damaged panel for painting. Applying PDR for this purpose is commonly referred to as “push to paint” or “push for paint.”

As great as PDR is, it does have some limiting factors. For example, it may not be the best choice for vehicles with paint damage, extremely sharp dents or creases, or if a large amount the metal has been stretched by the incurred damage. Dent Specialty experts, however, can determine, at no cost, if PDR will work for you.

When PDR is properly used to repair a dent, it is a permanent solution. The rigid auto body is restored to its original form and strength. On the other hand, dents repaired using conventional methods develop a visible band around the dent, a few months after the repair, which is not the case using PDR.

Finally, PDR providers are not all the same. Beware of inexperienced and nomadic companies as they may not deliver the results they promise. At Dent Specialties we are experienced professionals that guarantee our work, and provide our services through an anchored retail location.
